Wacker Chemie: showcases waterless cosmetic silicones and shampoo concentrates at in-cosmetics Global

WACKER presents waterless cosmetic silicones and concentrated shampoos at in-cosmetics Global

Munich, 05 April 2022

At this year’s in-cosmetics in Paris, the Munich chemical group WACKER presents its new “Solids and Concentrates” line, taking up the new trend of the cosmetics industry for hair and personal care products in solid or concentrated form. The sample formulations presented on the stand show that silicones significantly improve the properties of such water-free concentrates or solids. In the spotlight are the silicone products BELSIL® REG 1103 B, BELSIL® PF 100 and BELSIL® DADM 3240 E. in-cosmetics takes place April 5-7 in Paris, France.

The “Solids & Concentrates” line includes cosmetics supplied in solid or concentrated liquid form. These forms of delivery are considered favorable especially when it comes to sustainability. However, waterless personal care products or concentrates are not as comfortable to use and are often not as effective as liquid emulsion products.

However, cosmetic manufacturers can solve many of these problems by using silicones. This is illustrated by a series of formulations that WACKER is showing at in-cosmetics.

DIY face masks

In this sample formulation, WACKER has combined the Solids & Concentrates idea with the DIY skincare trend. The face mask comes as a solid that can be made into a nourishing skin cream by adding warm water. This cream is then applied as a warm face mask.

The challenge for the developers was to achieve the desired skin care effect and make the skin feel good. They also had to make sure that the formulation dissolved easily in water. The new BELSIL® REG 1103 B elastomeric silicone resin gel proved to be the key component in combining these two effects: on the one hand, the gel acts as an emulsifier facilitating the dissolution of the solid formulation. On the other hand, it gives the product the desired sensory properties.

The hydro-compatible BELSIL® REG 1103 B gel is one of the highlights of the WACKER stand. By mixing the gel with water you get a thick cream characterized by a full-bodied and homogeneous texture. As a typical elastomeric silicone resin gel, BELSIL® REG 1103 B combines the skin sensory properties of non-cross-linked silicone polymers with the film-forming effects of silicone resins. The gel gives the formulations a texture that leaves the skin extraordinarily soft and silky.

Eyebrow soap with additional benefits

The spotlight is also on a new type of eyebrow soap formulated as a hard gel. The translucent, non-sticky and quick-drying formula gives structure, volume, body and luster to the brows for perfect eyebrow styling.

Makeup artists in film and photo studios have long used the products to shape their clients’ brows and keep them in shape for longer. Meanwhile, eyebrow soap has become a trending product. However, many products do not offer additional benefits. Everything changes with special silicone fluids. Small amounts of BELSIL® PF 100, for example, enhance the luster of the eyebrows, highlighting the look.

BELSIL® PF 100 is a polyfunctional phenyl silicone fluid specially designed for use in hair care products and decorative cosmetics. The new product has a much higher refractive index than traditional phenyl silicone fluids. This makes BELSIL® PF 100 a highly effective polishing agent for the cosmetic industry.

DIY hair mask

Silicones are also used to design DIY water-soluble hair masks. They are incredibly simple to use – the user dissolves the hair mask in hot water. The resulting suspension is then applied to the still warm hair, in the same way as the conditioner.

The formula was created with the help of two silicone products: BELSIL® CDM 3526 VP, a proven low-melting silicone wax well known in the cosmetic industry that makes hair soft and silky and helps distribute evenly the oils contained. in the hair care product. The wax also makes the hair easier to style. The new BELSIL® PF 100 phenyl silicone fluid active ingredient enhances this effect and makes the hair shiny.

Concentrated shampoo

One of the highly concentrated products that WACKER will be presenting at in-cosmetics is a new concentrated shampoo that contains half the amount of water of conventional shampoos, which means a high concentration of surfactants. The concentrate is just as good as conventional shampoos for washing and conditioning hair creating a soft, silky feel and making it easy to comb and shiny looking.

The key component here is BELSIL® DADM 3240 E. The silicone emulsion from WACKER is an active ingredient in hair care products. The oil phase contains two silicones: an amodimethicone cross polymer and a dimethicone. The emulsion creates a loose network, which envelops the hair fibers, nourishes them and provides long-lasting protection.

The combination of dimethicone and cross polymer is very effective: even damaged hair can be treated with BELSIL® DADM 3240 E leaving hair soft and silky and easy to comb, both wet and dry. Hair retains its healthy natural shine after washing. Hair care products have a much longer lasting effect than conditioners that do not contain cross polymers.
