For Tati Gabrielle, self-love was a journey. “When I was young, I was very different from the rest of my family, only in my personality and in the way I saw life. As a child, I thought I was an alien, “she says in her Beauty Secrets video Rowing. Now the The terrifying adventures of Sabrina star realizes that only she can be seen and understood. Growing up as a biracial child meant learning to embrace her mixed heritage and her unique characteristics, from her skin to her hair. “I guess she became my skincare influence,” she laughs.
That said, embracing your individuality isn’t always an easy feat. “In my 20s my skin has really changed and become super sensitive; like, I never had acne when I was young and then suddenly it all came at once, “says Gabrielle. For her, that also meant dry spots and bouts of eczema. The 26-year-old has since scaled back her routine of skincare to balance her skin. After cleansing and a Dr. Dennis Gross LED mask, she cleanses the brand’s Extra Strength Daily Peel in two steps on hyperpigmentation spots and smile lines. Otherwise, her regimen will strongly relies on the brightness, sun protection and uniformity of its complexion.
As a young, self-proclaimed tomboy, Gabrielle considers makeup “a form of artistic expression, not as [something] to cover things ”so it doesn’t always hide imperfections. While it was initially difficult to find foundation and concealers that didn’t leave an ashy finish, the formulas from Too Faced and Fenty Beauty do just the job.
Some of Gabrielle’s makeup tricks were learned on set, such as: spraying Urban Decay’s All Nighter Fixing Spray means fewer touch-ups, even while wearing masks. Gabrielle brushes her brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze, filling in scattered areas with Glossier’s Brow Flick. A series of geometrically placed dots not only highlights the shape of her eyes, but allows her to playfully experiment. “From your makeup to your hair to your clothes, everything gives a different vibe and feel,” she says. “I like to be outside the box with everything I do because I find this to be what ignites the inspiration and allows one’s individuality to emerge.”
