Defender of the people

It is spring and a new fashion series comes with the season. Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Natasha Harding hit the runways and discovered some of the latest trends. According to Harding, if you’re looking for new items, here are the items that catch the eye of the spring 2022 season: cuts, lime green, miniskirts, fuchsia, halter neck, low waist, trouser suits, bras like tops, butter yellow, fringes , bright coordinates, feathers and folds. In her Vogue article, “The Best Street Style Looks of Spring 2022,” Emily Farra attributes the pandemic to the way people dress on the street, not the runway. However, she is a witness to bright, vibrant colors and prints that mix. Gender-fluid clothing and less tailored dress and short skirts with high boots and shirt bras are popular street styles. Today.com’s Kathryn McCann agrees with bright colors, short skirts, pleats and baggy jackets, adding a growing popularity for wedge shoes and checkered puff sleeve dresses.

We may not be in New York City, but the Defender perused a couple of local boutiques and chatted with resident Cabi stylist Liz Lafferty to get their take on spring fashion news.

The Grace and Lace Boutique is located in the center of West Union. Brooklyn Young curates this chic bohemian boutique. Young says this spring; we can look for layered looks, structured fabrics, linen, more skirts, small flowers and a lot of white. He agreed that cutouts are a youth trend this year and bangs are popular. Accessories are always essential and gold jewelry returns to strong and beaded earrings. Jute bags are trendy and rancher hats are tik-tok’s favorites. Studded sandals are all the rage in all shapes and textures.

Liz Lafferty has represented cabi clothing for eighteen years. She supports women in their choice of classic clothes. She said, “I hate to see people waste their money on stylish clothes; maybe buy a piece or two because the trends may be out of next season. Some wardrobe classics that Lafferty recommends for spring are white jeans paired with a smart jacket. Lafferty shares a little ditty, be careful: “If white is too tight, it’s not right.” She also recommends investing in a good quality pair of jeans that you can wear for years. She explains that cabi has something to offer all women, but the target audience is likely 30+. Some things to look for this season are asymmetrical, herringbone and floral patterns. Popular shades include greens, blues, and corals. In accessories, leopard and other animal prints, shoes and clothing are still in trend. Put some gold jewelry paired with pearls and you are classic and trendy.

Kreation Boutique is another West Union store that offers a simple and trendy spring clothing line. As a consumer favorite, Sales Associate Heather Lute highlighted the “always brunch” shirt in all cream with textured flowers and a gathered bust. She added: “Everyone loves a leotard – it’s one of the first things people buy.” There were short shirts on display and the fringe was once again a recurring fashion embellishment. Faux leather high-waisted shorts and a multicolored pastel denim jacket were new this season. The “Shackets”, which hit the market hot and hard in the fall, are still selling steadily.

Whether you follow the runway, keep a classic wardrobe or opt for casual and trendy pieces, the new spring lines have many choices. Have fun, get comfortable and stay true to your sense of style.
