RBC Heritage 2022: The top fashion trends of the tournament

Heritage is well underway for 2022. Ending this year on Easter Sunday, the tournament saw spring days par excellence for the Lowcountry.

With idyllic temperatures and so many options, who’s wearing what for this year’s tournament?

It could be assumed that the Heritage plaid from head to toe would be the fashion leader. However, this year it looks like RBC’s blue and yellow signature has taken the lead.

From sportswear and golf to chic Sunday brunch, thousands have already gathered and thousands more will follow suit at RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, sportswear that best combines style with practicality for the day outdoors.

While men have mostly veered towards athleisure, women have chosen multifaceted options. Sporty and athletic clothes, golf skirts and trousers that would be allowed on any course are worn by the present style-conscious woman. Dri-FIT polo shirts, blouses, baggy tops, quarter zips and refined sporty tank tops are other options for the warm season. More stylish choices around the greens this year include sundresses, pleated shorts, and linen tops. Common trends range from CK Bradley to J. McLaughlin and Lilly Pulitzer.

The breathability of the choice of fabric is key when selecting outfits for the tournament.

Although it is cooler during the early hours of morning tee time, layering is not required unless the participant cools easily. Reducing the layers helps reduce what one has to carry as the heat builds up later in the day.

A note to remember: PGA has a tournament policy on the size of bags that can be brought to the event. Any clutch bag or bag is allowed in the tournament as long as it is smaller than 6 x 6 x 6 inches. If something larger is needed, a clear bag of any style is allowed as long as it is no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches or a one gallon plastic bag.

Heavy accessories and heavy jewelry can be left at home and replaced with smaller chain necklaces, studs or small drop earrings. Simple bracelets and rings, think “less is more”, are good accompaniments.

Men accompanying fashionable women this year, as well as men enjoying their days with their friends, have been spotted in their most stylish golf outfits. Khaki and fun, colorful golf shorts or trousers with a Dri-FIT polo in RBC colors, Heritage plaid or spring colors are dominant.

Comfortable shoes are a must for everyone when walking for the tournament. Guests will be on their feet for most of the day, so golf shoes or anything flat-soled will relieve your feet as they walk through Harbor Town or from green to green.

Hats and visors of all varieties can be seen on almost everyone. This ranges from RBC Heritage baseball hats, mostly seen straw hats and visors, to Masters hats, sun hats and fedoras.

And who can forget?

After Lisa Cink, wife of 2021 tournament winner Stewart Cink, was photographed last year in her Heritage red plaid baseball cap, which quickly sold out and remained so for the remainder of the tournament, many have been seen with this style since they returned again this year. Very similar and what appears to be a favorite of the 2022 tournament, is the nearly identical red checkered Harbor Town Golf Links baseball cap: the new “Lisa Cink hat of 2022”.

Although RBC’s yellow and blue are the most popular this year, that hasn’t stopped fans from fully expressing their pride in RBC Heritage by giving Sir Willie a run for his money in their red Heritage tartan.
