Holistic beauty, role of the microbiome, benefits of natural ingredients, need for targeted vitamins and trace elements, general atmosphere conducive to self-concentration … all these factors played a role in the nutricosmetics boom. Just like the Anglophone and Asian countries, pioneers of this trend already accustomed to the gesture, the French market has gradually acquired importance, from pharmacies to new distribution channels. It has also developed new galenic forms, new categories and new combinations to give this product of pharmaceutical origin its cosmetic dimension.
While beauty from the inside is an established notion in the minds of nutricosmetics consumers, few brands clearly highlight topical cream + dietary supplement combinations in their offerings. Launched in 2017 by Sandra Gasmi, the natural and certified organic brand Beauty tomorrow it already does.
“In 1958 an apple contained 400 mg of vitamin C. Now it only has 4! There is nothing left. So, if we want to stay healthy and have beautiful skin, we need supplements. As soon as I launched the brand, I began developing dietary supplements that worked in synergy with our cosmetic products for maximum effectiveness. That’s why our products come in pairs,” explains.
The luminous exfoliating cleansing gel Choose Glow is used with the Go for the detox supplement that cleanses the body and plays on our brightness, digestion and blemishes. The Go for protection moisturizer and antioxidant + immune supplement work hand in hand. And the Inside supplements will join the three recently launched anti-aging skincare products.
To combine the benefits of nutraceuticals with the effects of cosmetics, the Anjac Health and beauty group, whose 14 integrated companies contribute to the creation and production of cosmetic and health solutions and products, launched an original premium range of health supplements last June. Liver, Immunity, Stress, Sleep, Joint and Energy solutions are available in liquid products to be assimilated by the body four times better than solid forms.
“We have created a central formula to protect the active ingredients and prevent them from being destroyed in the stomach. Their quantity is four times higher when they arrive in the intestine, where nutrients are absorbed, compared to that of solid food supplements.” explains Matteo ErrePhD in Pharmacy at the Anjac group.
Furthermore, the laboratory has worked on the notion of compliance, because the regularity with which the product is taken over time is fundamental for its effectiveness. Furthermore, they put their innovation know-how at the service of brands, influencers and distributors with a B2B offer based on efficacy and taste in the form of nutraceuticals (liquid solution, gummy candies …) and nutritional products (functional drinks and food ). Coming soon: a reabsorbing physio gel and natural energy drinks to provide energy and beauty with a low glycemic index.
The boom of gummy candies
A very well suited answer to the question of compliance, gummy candies are currently the trendiest food supplements. Between a jelly dessert and a healthy gesture, this new galenic form from the United States appealed to a larger and younger user group. The global market is expected to generate revenue of $ 7.15 billion by 2025, according to a Market Research Future study.
Both sweet and fruity, this tasty little gum boasts a sensory heritage that the capsules lacked, being more like a drug.
“It is much more enjoyable to take two small gummies a day for two to three months than to swallow the capsules. There is pleasure, and pleasure is the key to conformity. It is the main difference with standard food supplements,” explains David Gueunoun, founder and CEO of the Les Miraculeux brand.
Launched in 2019, the brand dedicated exclusively to this product category soon established itself as a forerunner and market leader, together with competitor Lashilé. The two young French brands have since shared the market with leading pharmaceutical laboratories who have also adopted this new popular galenic form.
“The assets are compliance with the treatments and bioavailability, because sugar is a good carrier; the effects are ready to come. It is also easier, because you don’t need a glass of water, you can take it at any time,confirms Fanny Adida, the co-founder of Lashilé. The brand proposes the effectiveness associated with the sweetness of its products. Each gummy contains 2.5g of sugar, which makes 5g per day for the recommended serving of two gummies. “It is the equivalent of a spoonful of jam. It is very little and has never been an objection to our customers,”Says the co-director of Lashilé. However, next spring, the brand will launch a “sugar-free” version of its weight loss formulas.
This problem can actually make a difference. The Les Miraculeux range already contains very little sugar and there is a sugar-free version. “We are the only ones to offer this choice. It was the last hurdle that prevented some brands from opting for this product form. Sugar can be considered contradictory with the health proposal,“says the Director.
This health proposal has a broader dimension. Historical claims focusing on sun care or strengthening hair and nails have been joined by new rather unexpected categories: female libido for Lashilé, vegan supplementation, or supplements for the menopause with Les Miraculeux, which has also just launched a line dedicated to menstrual comfort.
“As a laboratory, with this module, we aim to meet all the health needs of the family from infancy to menopause, from digestion to stress. We aim to continue exploring terrains that others don’t,“says David Gueunoun.
The latest innovation in the food supplement sector is to be attributed to Envielab brand. They have just added CBD, the leading molecule of wellness and cosmetics, to their concept. This new generation of products in the form of dry microspheres to be dissolved under the tongue, just like homeopathy, contains 5 mg of cannabinoids associated with the active ingredients of each reference.
