LAS VEGAS (AP) – Olivia Rodrigo made an impressive Grammy debut, Silk Sonic won two major awards, and Jon Batiste took the night’s most jaw-dropping victory by taking the grand prize at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
Batiste has won five Grammys Sunday, including album of the year for “We Are,” pulling off a roll-over in a charged and stiff competition-filled category from Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and the combined talents of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. After his victory, the multi-genre artist honored the artists he beat, telling the audience that “creative arts are subjective. Be you. “
“I just put my head down and work the craft every day,” said Batiste, who won for her song “Cry”, “Freedom” video and her work with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on the soundtrack of ” Soul.”
Silk Sonic – the union of stars of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak – took home awards in all four categories in which it was nominated, including record and song of the year. Both were exuberant when they accepted the honor towards the end of the ceremony. Full story here:
