Full cast and creative team announced for LOTUS BEAUTY at Hampstead Theater

The Hampstead Theater has announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere of Satinder Chohan’s new play, Lotus Beauty. Directed by Pooja Ghai, Lotus Beauty will be staged at Hampstead Downstairs, in association with the Tamasha Theater Company, from May 13 to June 18, 2022.

Lotus Beauty follows the intertwined lives of five multigenerational women. The cast includes Anshula Bain (Tartuffe, Birmingham Rep; (This Isn’t) A True Story, Almeida Theater); Souad Faress (The Archers, BBC; Game of Thrones, HBO), Zainab Hasan (The Welkin, National Theater; Shakespeare Trilogy, Donmar Warehouse), Ulrika Krishnamurti (Pink Sari Revolution, Curve Theater / Belgrade Theater / West Yorkshire Playhouse; Made in India, Tamasha Theater Company), Kiran Landa (Line of Duty, BBC; Extinct, Theater Royal Stratford East).

Ghai will be joined by the designer Rosa Maggiora; lighting director, Matt Haskins; sound designer, The Ringham Brothers; The dialect trainer Gurkiran Kaur and the assistant director Cassia Thakkar.

Lotus Beauty invites us into Reita’s salon, where clients can parade texts about their day’s little hits or get massaged, ripped or ripped off their struggles. But with honest truths and witty beards on top of the treatments on offer, will the power of the community be enough to lift the spirits of all who pass through the salon doors?

Satinder Chohan makes his Hampstead debut. His previous credits include Zameen (Kali Theater), Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi (Chased by a Bear / Kali Theater), Half of Me and Made in India (Tamasha).

Tamasha’s Artistic Director, Pooja Ghai directs her first production in Hampstead. Former Associate of Theater Royal Stratford East, his previous credits include Lions and Tigers (Globe Theater), Approaching Empty (Tamasha, Kiln Theater, Live Theater), Rapunzel, Counting Stars and The House of in Between (all Stratford East).

The world premiere of The Fever Syndrome, Alexis Zegerman’s emotional portrayal of a brilliantly dysfunctional family, is currently on the main stage at the Hampstead Theater until April 30th. Directed by Hampstead artistic director Roxana Silbert, The Fever Syndrome features Lisa Dillon, Jake Fairbrother, Alexandra Gilbreath, Robert Lindsay, Sam Marks, Bo Poraj and Alex Waldmann. They are joined in the cast by Nancy Allsop and Charlotte Pourret Wythe.

The UK premiere of Ché Walker’s Wolf Cub is scheduled at Hampstead Downstairs until 7 May. Blending poetic beauty and brutal honesty, Wolf Cub is a visceral odyssey written and directed by Ché Walker. Clare Latham performs in this show for one person only.
