Ramadan is a holy month observed by Muslims all over the world. For many, it is primarily known for abstaining from food and drink during the day, but Muslims will agree that it is much more than that. Ramadan is a time of self reflection and transition, a time to disconnect and take a more conscious approach to your daily lifestyle. For me, I look forward to Ramadan every year because it brings me peace, a time to slow down and take time for myself, loved ones and my faith. The sense of community that Ramadan brings is also something I truly love. Muslim neighbors will exchange food, mosques fill with garments every evening, and the air is filled with waiting moments before the evening meal.
Spiritual well-being, for me, goes far beyond religious acts such as fasting, prayer and abstention from negative habits. While I prioritize things like offering additional prayers and donating to charity, Ramadan is also an opportunity to recharge and reflect on my physical, emotional and mental regimes. To nurture my relationship of faith and make the most of the month, I also stopped watching television and listening to music this year – not a necessity, but this allows me to better use my time to listen to recitations, cook more meals. long and learn more about faith.
It is reported that it takes 66 days to get used to it and the 30 days of Ramadan provide the ideal motivation to kick off this and implement new structures and improve my way of life, with the intention of keeping it in place beyond the month.
